What are we doing to cope with the Bird Flu crisis?

As you all probably know, the UK is currently under a nationwide housing order imposed by the government because of the dramatic increase in Avian Influenza cases, especially down in Norfolk.

Here is a link to see an interactive map of where the cases are at the moment:

What is a Housing Order?

A housing order is basically a formal phrase for 'keeping all the chickens inside'. Although that sounds daunting, its not an uncommon thing, in fact the exact same order was in place this time last year.

The reason why we have to keep all the chickens inside because this 'bird flu' outbreak is spread by wild birds, and with most chickens in the UK being free range, they could be in regular contact with wild birds and therefore catch the 'flu'.

So, in order prevent and control the outbreak of 'bird flu' all chickens must be inside or in a fully enclosed run so they are free from any contact of wild birds.

What are we doing to help our chickens?

We are doing all that we can to ensure that the welfare of our chickens is maintained to the highest standard(as always), so that then the impact of this housing order is minimal for you and the chickens.

One of the ways that we are doing this is by purchasing/building a temporary enclosed run system so that the chickens can still enjoy the outdoors in safety.

So, relax, I can assure you that all this hype in the news is totally exaggerated, and our eggs great quality will continue to be exactly the same as before.
